Dr. Saalman Talks AI and Nuclear Risk in Beijing
From July 7-11, EWI Senior Fellow Dr. Lora Saalman spoke at Tsinghua University’s World Peace Forum and Annual Meeting of the Political Science and International Relations Academic Community in Beijing. Her Chinese-language talks discussed the impact of artificial intelligence on nuclear deterrence and arms control. In particular, she explored the stabilizing and destabilizing trends brought about by machine learning and autonomy in the military interactions among nation states.
Her remarks were based on research and workshops conducted in Europe, East Asia, South Asia and the United States with the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute for a project on emerging technologies and nuclear risk with the support of the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
